Managed Portfolio

A Managed Portfolio is, as the name suggests, a range of investments supervised by a specified Portfolio Manager. The risk of your investments can be tailored to your individual needs, and it can use products offered by different providers. If the value of an investment is significant enough, it can often be used to purchase individual shares or bonds.

Your Portfolio Manager’s responsibilities will include: keeping you updated regularly, ensuring the portfolio is suitable for any changes in circumstances, and ensuring it will utilise the most tax-efficient methods of investment, such as annual use of ISA allowances.

Were you mis-sold an ISA investment?

A fundamental part of an investment strategy is to spread the risk across different asset classes so all your eggs aren’t in one basket. Normally, the best way for you to do this is to pool your resources with others and utilise different investment schemes. However, if you have sufficient capital – usually £50,000 or more – you will often be recommended to invest into a Managed Portfolio.

Despite the advantages a Managed Portfolio provides, incorrect or unsuitable advice from your Manager can still lead to you losing money. If that’s the case, you may have been subject to Managed Portfolio mis-selling.

When you purchased the Managed Portfolio, your sales adviser should have considered:

  • Your financial situation – what existing investments do you have and what is your experience in this area?
  • Your understanding of a Managed Portfolio – how does it work? What are the risks?
  • Your attitude to risk – are you naturally risk averse? What are the implications in the event of significant loss?
  • Your future intentions for the investment
  • Your unique circumstances such as age, job security or disabilities

If some or none of the above occurred then you may have been mis-sold a Managed Portfolio and are entitled to make a claim.
